Chief Technology Officer
Emmett “Trey” Hawkins III serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Leapfrog Services, where he leads technology strategy, service innovation, technical architecture, hosted platforms, and the continued evolution of the company’s managed IT and cybersecurity offerings. He also works directly with clients as a trusted advisor, helping executive teams connect technology, risk, operations, and long-term business priorities.
With more than 25 years in technology services, Trey has built his career at the intersection of enterprise infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, automation, business continuity, and executive technology leadership. He co-founded Virtex Networks, Inc., one of the nation’s early IT infrastructure service providers, and served as its CTO until Leapfrog acquired the company in 2001. Before founding Virtex, he led Computer Associates’ enterprise software training center in Atlanta, where he developed deep expertise implementing and supporting enterprise management technologies used by Fortune 500 organizations.
At Leapfrog, Trey has helped shape a services organization built to support complex, regulated, and security-conscious businesses. His work spans technology strategy, data center and cloud architecture, cyber risk governance, compliance, disaster recovery, service delivery design, and the responsible adoption of AI and automation. He is especially focused on translating emerging technologies into practical, scalable solutions that strengthen resilience and create measurable business value.
Outside the Pond
Trey is a husband, father, mentor, and lifelong learner who believes strong organizations are built by developing people, encouraging curiosity, and creating room for thoughtful experimentation. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling with his family, cooking, playing racquetball, working on classic cars, and exploring new ideas in business, technology, health, and longevity.
He is equally comfortable discussing cybersecurity strategy in a boardroom, troubleshooting a mechanical problem in the garage, or mapping out the next family adventure. Across those interests, the common thread is the same: understand how things work, improve them with intention, and leave them stronger than he found them.
Community, Leadership & Education
Trey’s community and civic involvement has included membership in InfraGard, service on a special committee that helped select the City of Atlanta’s Chief Information Officer, and leadership with the Grace Scholarship Foundation. He was also nominated for the Georgia CIO of the Year award.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University with a double major in Philosophy and Education and is a graduate of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business Advanced Management Program. His background in philosophy continues to influence his analytical approach, leadership style, and emphasis on making technology decisions with purpose.
