Ever Seen A Flashmob of Giving? How Tech Is Powering A One-Day Blitz

NOVEMBER 2012:  Say good-bye to telethons and hello to a tech-driven, streamlined, easy-to-use, momentous day of generosity.

It’s called Georgia Gives Day and it’s the first time that nonprofits across the state have attempted such a mammoth one-day effort. The goal? Raise as much money as possible for Georgia nonprofits in a 24-hour period. The day? December 6th. The technology? Outstanding!

Here’s how the Georgia Center for Nonprofits (GCN) is pulling it off and how you can leap in to participate:

Georgia Gives Day is organized around a single website that’s super-easy to use. GCN has invited all nonprofits in Georgia with 501c3 status to sign up to be included on the website and in its database. The database is organized by causes — such as animals, environment, health and religion.

On Georgia Gives Day, visitors visit the website, select a cause that’s dear to their hearts and check out each participating organization’s information. Nonprofits of all sizes can participate so tiny startups are listed right alongside huge organizations — talk about a level playing field! Donating is safe, secure and easy.

How much can Georgia Gives Day raise for nonprofits?

Other states have used the same kind of technology to raise millions of dollars in a single day, so the pressure is on for Georgia! You can watch up-to-the-minute results on the website’s live ticker. Dozens of associations, foundations and corporations (including ad agencies and media companies) are donating time and expertise to help get the word out and make the day a success. Leapfrog is proud to provide discounted IT services to GCN on a year-round basis and fully supports its mission.

So why not add Georgia Gives Day to your calendar and when the day comes, grab whatever tech device you’ve got handy — computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet — and help out a cause you care about?
